Guatemala Update
Pacaya Volcano Eruption and Tropical Storm Agatha
Updated June 1, 2010
Many of you have been concerned about the people of Guatemala and the staff of CoEd in the wake of two natural disasters over Memorial Day weekend. Here's what we know so far:
- On Friday, May 28, the volcano Pacaya (near Guatemala City and Antigua) erupted and rained a couple of inches of black sand and ash.
- Tropical Storm Agatha hit Guatemala on Friday and Saturday, creating mudslides, sinkholes, and flooding throughout parts of the country, including areas CoEd serves.
- CoEd's staff is safe.
- Schools are closed all week.
- It's hard to know how individual schools and villages are faring, but we will post more information as we get it.
We appreciate your thoughts and prayers for the people of Guatemala.
