Have you included CoEd in your will or estate plans too? If so, please let us know! Contact Holly End at holly@coeduc.org.
Our supporters believe in the importance of sustainability—both for our projects in Guatemala and for our ourganization as a whole. That’s why a group of our supporters have joined together to ensure that their support will continue to bring educational opportunities to Guatemalan students for generations to come, thanks to Cooperative for Education’s Legacy Society.
The Legacy Society is made up of supporters who have decided to include CoEd in their estate plans. These gifts build CoEd’s endowment, creating a sustainable funding source to support the schools and students CoEd serves far into the future.
There are many ways for you to remember CoEd in your plans. The easiest and most common is to name CoEd as a beneficiary in your will, insurance policy, or IRA. You can designate a specific amount, but often people choose to set aside a percentage of their assets to the organization upon their passing or upon the passing of both spouses. There are also a variety of other options (such as annuities and charitable remainder trusts) that can serve as investment vehicles.
It’s easy to do. We even have some sample language that could be added to your will to make the process easy. Adding CoEd as a beneficiary of your insurance policy or IRA simply requires adding our name in the beneficiary section of the form.
Legacy Society members can personally attest to the rewards of making an ongoing commitment to the children of Guatemala:
- “By setting up a charitable remainder trust benefiting CoEd, we found an avenue for giving that will not only support education for generations, but also makes sound financial sense for us personally. It is truly a ‘win/win.’”
—Ed & Suzanne McCarter, Legacy Society Members - “Early on, planned giving seemed to me and Ann to be an effective way of helping CoEd achieve greater financial stability, especially during those economic periods when fundraising is most difficult. With no children ourselves, CoEd has been our family and I can think of no finer way to say ‘thank you’ to that family.”
