| Great News from CoEd's Computer Team!
Earlier this month, two teachers from CoEd Computer Centers in Guatemala were invited to participate in the event "Microsoft Partners in Learning - Innovative Teachers Guatemala 2011." Blanca from Chiquilajá and Danilo from Hacienda Maria, as representatives of CoEd sponsored programs, relayed to the judges examples of how their students use technology in innovative ways in the classroom.

Both Blanca and Danilo competed as part of the Community
category, where Danilo won 1st prize and Blanca earned 2nd prize! Danilo's success allows him to continue to the international level of the Microsoft hosted competition! Danilo will travel to Santiago, Chile in September as one of four representatives from Guatemala.
Blanca exhibited her students' work on No Contamines el Planeta, a project where they collected litter and other trash from the community. Items collected were then recycled and the proceeds collected from recycling allowed the students to plant trees near their school. Finally, to prevent future litter, students completed a compelling presentation about caring for the environment before community members. Blanca's students incorporated computer technology through the process of typing letters, tracking collected items and funds in Excel, creating Powerpoint presentations, and more!
For the top prize, Danilo explained how his students used Microsoft Office for entrepreneurial purposes. His students developed, created, and marketed their own products using Word, Excel, and Powerpoint. Creativity was prominently displayed in their all-natural soap, face cream, and hat with embedded MP3 player and headphones.
Congratulations to the CoEd computer staff and good luck to Danilo in Santiago, Chile!
