Dear Friend,

As many of you know, February is tour season for CoEd. Our US office is a bit quiet right now while most of our staff is down in Guatemala, busy inaugurating our new projects with the help of 50 volunteers. In the meantime, we’re taking a quick look back on the past year. Read on to see how your support made 2011 a great year for our programs in Guatemala!

CoEd's 2011 Annual Report
A Brief Reflection on the Past Year

We are passionate about the kids we’re helping in Guatemala, but we would not be effective in carrying out our mission without all of you who help us.

Guatemalan children face many obstacles when it comes to completing their education.

With your support, CoEd’s programs are giving kids the tools to overcome these challenges and get better educations. Thank you for making 2011 a great year!

Meet Rony Gonzalez
Overcoming Overwhelming Obstacles

Rony Gonzalez and his siblings had promised each other to never let the family go hungry, and, unfortunately, it had come to that point. Unlike his older siblings, Rony was not able to work and complete his schooling. Putting his own future on hold, Rony left the third grade to work at a jewelry shop and help provide for his family.

After a few years of work, Rony decided it was time to return to school. When he did, he entered into a class with his younger brother, five years his junior. But he did not let this discourage him.

Regardless of the obstacles, Rony never lost sight of education’s end result. He has made use of every opportunity presented to him. CoEd’s Computer Center at El Pedregal Cooperative School in Quetzaltenango, Guatemala, has encouraged Rony to cultivate big dreams and even bigger plans.
