Dear Friend,

We're headed to Guatemala this week for our summer tours, but before we go, we wanted to share some exciting news with you!

CoEd Takes Home the Prize
Computer Teachers Get Top Awards in Microsoft Competition

CoEd's Howard Lobb (left) and Silvio Herrera celebrate with four of the Computer Center teachers at the Microsoft competition on July 14.

For the second year in a row, CoEd’s Computer Center teachers in Guatemala took multiple top prizes in the country-wide Partners in Learning competition held by Microsoft.
  • Karen Morales of Chicamán won first place in the “collaboration” category
  • Rafael Aceytuno of Sacapulas won first place in the “extending learning beyond the classroom” category
  • Juan Oliva of La Labor received third place in the “collaboration” category
Best of luck to Karen and Rafael as they move on to the next phase of the competition in Lima, Peru this September. They'll be facing off against educators from 20 countries in Latin America!

Such recognition underscores the impact our teachers have on children in Guatemala. Of the 16,000 students served through the Computer Centers established by CoEd in Guatemala, 83 percent go on to use the skills they learn to pursue further education or higher-paying jobs. The sustainable program, combined with excellent local Guatemalan teachers, ensures that the centers will continue to educate Guatemalan youths for generations to come.

Get Named on CoEd's Wall of Honor
Last Call to Join Reaching New Heights Campaign

Donate $150 before August 10 and get your name in CoEd's new honorary library

We're happy to report that we've surpassed the $183,700 goal for our Reaching New Heights Campaign! Thanks to your generosity, CoEd is now equipped with the infrastructure needed to offer the best possible educational opportunities to Guatemalan students.

Nearly 100 of you have already contributed to the campaign, but there is still plenty of room for book sponsors on our symbolic Wall of Honor. Please consider making a gift of $150 by August 10 in order to be recognized on a book in our honorary library in time for the special dedication ceremony on September 12!

Groupon Grassroots Campaign Success
You Provided 1,200 School Supply Kits for Guatemalan Students

Thanks to everyone who bought a $12 Groupon, told their friends, and posted about the deal on Facebook, Twitter, and Pinterest!

Thank you for making our Groupon Grassroots campaign a success! We are thrilled to have surpassed our goal of purchasing 1,000 school supply kits. Our friends at Business Information Solutions matched the first $1,000 sold through Groupon, bringing our grand total to $3,880! Because you helped spread the word and purchase the Groupons, CoEd will be able to deliver CORP school supply kits to over 1,200 primary school students in Guatemala, starting next week!
