Biography: My name is Yeimi and I live in Acatenango in a village called “Pajales II”. It is certainly very pretty, but it is a bit far away. My family is made up of my dad, my younger brother, my paternal grandfather, and my paternal grandmother. My mom went to live in the United States. We decided to go and live with my grandparents, since my dear granny got sick and needed someone to look after her. I am in charge of looking after her, but at the same time, my grandparents take care of me. My dad is very hardworking, and although my mother went very far away, he decided to fight for us. My dad is a construction worker, which is a very tough and unstable job, since the constructions have a beginning and an end. When the constructions finish, my dad becomes unemployed and begins looking for work again. I am the one responsible for the cooking and cleaning for the whole family, since my father and grandfather sometimes work in the field. My grandmother often gets sick and my little brother studies too. One of my dreams is to become a nurse, since I like to give my attention to all the sick people who need my help. Caring for my granny has awoken a desire in me to help other people. Math is one of my favorite classes, since it is easy for me to understand basic sums. It will be useful for me when I am studying to be a nurse. Knowing that I could get a scholarship made me so happy that I worked harder each term. I know that it is a huge opportunity to be able to achieve a better future. I dream of finishing my studies and of being able to help my family out of poverty.
